Chip Evans paints oils and has exhibited in New England galleries since 1980. His work is contemporary realism influenced by impressionism.

Evans' landscape paintings exemplify the beauty and character of New England…from the deep woods and winding roads of Vermont, to the open fields, lakes and barns of New Hampshire, to the ocean views of Maine. His still life paintings are infused with warmth and drama, from the simplicity of back lit pears or the charm of copper and wood, to the romance of wine and cheese by candlelight.

Chip believes that “it all comes down to light” as light gives mood and feeling to objects. His portrayal of light and strong sense of color are hallmarks of his work.

Private commissions and teaching painting have been an important part of his career.

"My first love is oil painting. I paint light. Because it's light that gives feeling and mood to objects."

Chip Evans' career in art began at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh and continued at Mercersburg Academy. Although an English major, he had more credits in art history and studio at Washington and Jefferson College. He graduated as a noted authority on color and light theory, with honors, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.

For over six years, Evans was the leading designer for the Crockett Collection, one of the foremost silk screeners of holiday gift cards in the U.S. This folk art form disciplines the artist to capture the essence of his subject in four or five colors using simple shapes.
